*US House backs Iraq withdrawal

Source: Al Jazeera and agencies _________________________________________________________________ As of right now I am in support of us pulling back out troops. We have been there for a long time and if it isn't working yet ...I don't know if it ever will. Apart of me wants our troops to stay to help them get established and have their democracy ...but it doesn't seem that is what they want or that right now it is even possible. I think we have lots of issues that should be taken care of right here in our own country. Imagine if we had put half the effort ,required of our troops over these long years, into ending poverty or violence. Those are just a few deas. But you get my point. It is just hard for me to understand sometimes why soooo much effort, time, and money has been spent on this effort. Please help me to understand!!! |

Thought you'd like this quote by Martin Luther King Jr. " A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on social uplift is approaching spiritual doom."
I have no idea why it listed me as Doofus on my last comment! WIERD! -Donna
I've been a big supporter of staying the course since the war began but I too feel that we have given the Iraqi's more than enough of our time, resources and lives and that a phased withdrawl seems to be the only reasonable option right now. I have no doubt that we have made significant progress the past several years, and we certainly owed such an effort to those brave soldiers who lost their lives, their families and the Iraqi people who want democracy. I would love to see a live special on TV (that is not politically motivated) where soldiers, both those serving and those who have served, sharing their experiences on the progress made as well as their opinions on withdrawing. Most of America wants to see us leave Iraq, but most do not have a firsthand account of what is actually happening there, both good and bad. I feel that we owe it to our soldiers, more than our citizens to influence such an important decision.
